Things are always different, and deeper, than they seem
Torrance Baker has a good life, on the surface. Wealth, political power, and good friends that would do anything for him.
Or so one would imagine.
The death of his sisters lover, a civil war, and a new potentially devastating, death plague hangs over him however and threatens to plunge the kingdom of Noram into chaos if someone doesn't stop it. Once again, it falls to him to use his power and position to save them all.
Reality is about to become a lot clearer for him, however, as all of the secrets of his real origin are finally unveiled.
In the end, one thing is very clear; Tor isn't who, or what, he thought he was at all, and that fact will change the shape of his world, forever.

We finally understand! This is the final book in Tor's current story arc. We've debated and guessed our way through the previous stories trying to understand how others truly view our friend Torrence Baker, but finally, he's self-aware and we can actually understand the world around him and how it interacts with the person we all love. This is probably the best Young Ancients story to date (they're not finished yet, but this story arc is). We get plenty of action and insight. And we get closure on a great number of points that have driven some of us quite mad. This is exactly the book we needed.
If you have not read the previous Young Ancients stories, you should definitely do so before starting this one. The first book is called "The Builder" and it will start you down a road of true enjoyment. If you have read the Young Ancients, you should absolutely buy this installment. If you like any other P.S. Power story, you should start reading this series as well. You won't be disappointed.
Mr. Powers is absolutely my favorite new author. He brings a great story-telling ability along with new books at an amazing rate. There's no waiting six months to a year for the next book to come out. He's currently "slowing down" a bit by "only" doing a new novel once a month. Plus, he interacts with his fans on Amazon's forums all the time. In other words, he's possibly the perfect author.
I highly recommend this book. You will enjoy it.

Ancient Kings The Young Ancients Book 9 eBook PS Power Reviews
Overall a great read, been waiting on it to come out an seen it Friday and finish it by Sunday, didn't get much sleep however. Very hard to put down. I will re-read it in a week or so (after I catch up on my sleep) and really take my time to make sure I didn't miss any details.
I really like the way Dale toned down the sex scenes in this book. You can't get rid of them all together because they do define the culture. Just don't need the details and like I have to take a shower every other chapter. I know I'm just a prude as Ali would say.
I struggled a bit with the ages of the main characters initially, but came to love this fantasy solution to after the "cataclysm" and found it very enjoyable, Tor, Timen and Tieira, even hoping there will be more. The author is creative, develops the characters very well, explores concepts I've never considered and leaves the reader with much to mull over in our current world straits. Very well thought out, very well done. A bit of a struggle over what to read first, but it turns out it doesn't really matter. They all come together very well.
The Young Ancient series as a whole doesn't follow the traditional format of a fantasy series. It's more of a slice of life piece, offering a rambling voyeuristic window into the life of a brilliant inventor with some rather severe emotional issues. And it's FREAKING AWESOME!
"Ancient Kings" is book seven of Tor's story and book nine of the overall series which should be read in publication order. If you have any interest in this book you should go start with "The Builder" and be prepared to lose several days of your life to a story with many ups and downs and, now, an ultimately satisfying conclusion.
I love tor. He is just awesome. I would have read another 20 books about him even if they got worse with each one. The issue is that this is the last book from his perspective and I have no interest in Tim or their sister. So while this book wasn't bad it will be the last one I get from this author. If this is how they end a good thing I won't bother with the other series by him either.
Best of the series so far.
I really liked the way it included and wrapped up some of the plot twists from the start of the series. Also I loved how it built up some of the other questions so we know what the next few books will include, as well as make a bunch more twists. At least I hope it is at least a few more. I want to see how tall he ends up personally!!!
I could have used a little more personal interactions with the characters (sex). I'm not into trashy romance novels at all, but this Tor's journey started out being about him interacting with women. Put it back in please. Why pander to some small portion of the readers when removing it takes away from the overall story line. Eventually you'll alienate everyone else. IMO... I really expected it personally. I understood why the last two books didn't include much since it was Tor's younger siblings, but he's back.
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK...
I really enjoy this series (and all the other series by this author). Its a little YA in tone, but the author is able to convey emotion to the reader, and is very prolific, and is price-savvy. I don't know how he does it, but we've gotten 3 or 4 books a year out of this guy. And if the proofing or editing isn't as perfect as it might be (it isn't actually too bad - he does use an editor), I don't hold that against him - I'm looking for story, and this guy has plots oozing out of him. Only criticism is that he hasn't, to my satisfaction, actually completed any of the series he's started. He has started new worlds/story-lines, but it'd be great to wrap up a couple of his worlds before starting a new line. That said, its clear that he has enough plots in his head to keep us all quite happy for a long time.
Book nine of the Young Ancient Series finishes Tor's first arc in this epic story. Many details are filled in as Tor gains wisdom of what is really going on around him. Noram is now in all out civil war as the rebellious counties start the drum beats to war. We meet more Ancients and Tor is not fully impressed but he knows that some of them are his enemies. Lacking his original mental controls he is able to see things more clearly but learns he may always be easily influenced. Some relationships get extremely messed up and others look grim but have a more happy ending.
At nine books and only about a third of the way done this story is just ramping up with Timon and Tiera's second books due very soon!
If you are looking for an epic story I highly recommend this series.
